A bill to create more charter schools in Michigan has once again fallen short in the state House.
Despite their majority, Republicans were unable to overcome the objections of Democrats and some GOP opponents late Tuesday night.
It was the second time since May that the House has failed to pass the bill, which has the support of Gov. Engler.
Bill sponsor Wayne Kuipers says he hopes the House will reconsider the bill before the end of this year. All bills not passed before Dec. 31 will have to be reintroduced in the next legislative session.
The legislation would increase the number of charter schools universities can open by 25 per year through 2007.
