Lead-Free Initiative

High lead levels in children can lead to numerous medical problems including stunted growth and developmental delays.

Friday, representatives came together to canvass at-risk neighborhoods in order to bring awareness to parents about the dangers of lead and encourage them to get children ages one to six tested.

All it takes is a fingerstick to determine if a child has high levels of lead in their blood and the partners of the "Not in My Backyard Campaign" are providing testing to all children ages one to six.

This week McDonalds is offering a gift certificate as a reward for testing. Parents should bring their children to any Sparrow or Ingham laboratory. If children are insured, bring insurance cards. However, uninsured children are welcome and will be tested.
