Ingham County Medical Examiners say the man who crashed a diesel tanker into a Webberville gas station Wednesday morning died of a heart attack.
Sixty-four-year-old Edward Clyde Grimley was just 100 yards away from the Webberville Oil Company when his truck went off the road along W. Grand River Ave and slammed into the building Wednesday morning.
As a precaution, emergency workers evacuated Webberville schools.
Residents within a quarter radius were also asked to leave their homes.
The oil company owner remembers trying to save the driver of the truck. He says it's fortunate more people weren't hurt.
"I went to turn the truck off to see if the driver was okay," said company owner Bob Chick. "I assumed he had some sort of medical problem. It's very unfortunate the man lost his life."
A memorial service was held for Grimley Saturday. Meanwhile, Webberville Oil Company owners are still delivering heating oil, but the gas station is closed.
