Lansing School District Approves Budget

Lansing School District Treasurer, Guillermo Lopez says the district cut in the neighborhood of 12 million dollars. Among the casualties, the 82 year old Walnut Street School.

On Thursday night, the Lansing School District approved a budget for 178 million dollars. Just blocks away, Walnut had it's goodbye party with students, staff and family.

Some two million dollars of the school's budget is expected to come from a proposal by Governor Granholm which would provide an additional 175 dollars in state funding per student. Total, it would be around two million dollars.

While that proposal has been approved by a senate subcommittee... the state will not finalize it's budget until the fall.
