$500,000 in Limbo for Lansing

At least one Lansing city council member says they've found $500,000 in their 2006 budget.

At large member Carol Wood says just this week councilmembers discovered a half-million dollars in a debt-serivice fund.

That's money that was once reserved to pay off loans for a banquet project on the Groesbeck golf course and the consolidation of city garages.

Both projects were voted down by council, and in the eyes of some counicl members the money could save some jobs or shore-up the dwindling rainy-day fund.

But the mayor's office says the half-million is already earmarked for other projects.

For now the council's put the money into a control account.

The council and administration may begin to resolve this issue as early as June 2nd.
