Michigan Schools Will Get Grades

Michigan schools will get letter grades based on test scores, student progress and other factors under an accreditation plan just finalized by the state Board of Education.

Schools will be given grades of A, B, C, D-ALERT or Unaccredited under the plan.

Scores on the Michigan Educational Assessment Program tests will count for two-thirds of a school's grades. And the other third will take into consideration curriculum, professional development opportunities for teachers and family participation.

The first grades under this new scale will not be released until next year.
