CAMBRIDGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- State wildlife experts are investigating reports of an illegal carp in a Lenawee County lake.
The Department of Natural Resources says grass carp are considered a species of Asian carp but do not pose the same risk. Nonetheless, grass carp eat important plants and can disrupt fish habitat.
The DNR received an anonymous photo of the fish on May 16. It plans to start checking Marrs Lake on June 18. The lake is in Lenawee County's Cambridge Township, 20 miles southeast of Jackson. If fish are found, experts will determine if they are reproducing.
Marrs Lake residents have been notified.
