LPD Chief Mark Alley says 95 percent of their budget is salary and benefits... so, any cuts they make almost have to be staff reductions.
The cuts break down to administrative, clerical, a command position, a drug enforcement officer and six cadets who hand out subpoenas.
Fraternal Order of Police Executive Director, Thomas Krug says the 16 cuts will have a significant affect on the public safety.
Chief Alley says that won't happen because they are not eliminating any foot patrols... and that the proposed plan he's come up with will enable the department to continue it's main mission of public safety.
The plan has not yet been approved.
