Commissioners for The Lansing Board of Water and Light Tuesday night unanimously approved a rate increase for water and electric customers.
Effective July 1, electric rates will increase three percent. Water rates will increase 6.5 percent. Water rates will again increase next year 6.5 percent.
BWL says the increase was needed for a variety of reasons including inflation, rising healthcare costs, and declining sales.
BWL says the last rate hike was more than two years ago.
