Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour says Michigan is one of the better opportunities for Republicans to capture a Democratic seat in the US Senate.
And he says he sensed a lot of optimism among Republicans over whether they can defeat Governor Granholm.
The former Republican National Committee chairman spoke at a Grand Rapids fund-raiser for Michigan Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land Wednesday.
Barbour says Republicans should keep their eyes on the 2006 elections rather than get sidetracked by the early jockeying for the 2008 presidential nomination.
Barbour also attended a House Republican fund-raising dinner in Novi.
