General Motors has named one of its top midsize vehicle executives to the new position of vice president of global program management.

Jon Lauckner will manage the global and regional teams that are developing GM's future vehicles. He will report to Bob Lutz, the company's vice chairman of product development.

Lauckner's appointment is effective immediately.

The automaker also says Saturn president Annette Clayton will become GM's North American vice president of quality. She replaces Kevin Williams, who has been appointed manufacturing manager for GM Mexico. The appointments are effective June 1.
