The BTRC's budget is more than 111-thousand dollars. Money the Lansing School District needs to help balance it's budget. So, they proposed it's closure.
But, at Thursday night's school board meeting a proposal was unanimously approved to save the center. The proposal will turn the BTRC into a non-profit responsible for coming up with it's own funding.
The school district would still pay for about 10-thousand dollars of operation (mostly salary), plus hand over the horses and equipment to the center.
The BTRC already has ideas about how to raise money... including horse sponsorships and banner advertisements which they hope would cover about half of their budget.
