News Ten is reporting that the director of the Michigan State Police has launched an internal review concerning the sending of "inappropriate materials" by members of his department via the state email system.
Col. Stephen Madden says the probe is an embarrassment to the department but no criminal laws have been violated. He warned employees in a Nov. 12 memo that misuse of the email system would not be tolerated.
So far dozens of officers at all levels in the department have been interviewed. The state troopers union says nine troopers have been implicated but more are expected.
The union says the review has been broader than it needed to be and has "taken on the persona of a witch hunt." The MSP director denies that charge. Madden says the investigation is almost over.
