The United Auto Workers Capital Area CAP Council Wednesday afternoon announced its endorsement of Lansing mayoral candidate Virg Bernero.
Union leaders interviewed all four candidates about their vision for the city before making a decision. The other candidates include incumbent Tony Benavides, Lynne Martinez, and Dale Abronowitz.
CAP Council Chair Chris 'Tiny' Sherwood said Bernero was chosen because, "He can reverse this so-called trend here in Lansing, and he provides the leadership we want in the future."
The last time around, the UAW endorsed both Bernero and Benavides.
Bernero said, "It's like the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval in Lansing to have the UAW."
UAW leaders said they announced their endorsement early into the campaign to give Bernero an edge in the primary.
