Students at St. Johns High School are grieving a fellow classmate Tuesday.

16-year-old James McCarthy of DeWitt--- a sophomore at SJHS--- died on Friday after drowning while kayaking on Clifford Lake in Montcalm County.

The principal tells us students wore black and armbands Tuesday in memory of James--- and are looking for ways to raise money in his name.

Visitation services will take place Tuesday night from 6pm to 8pm at the Keck-Coleman Funeral Home in St. Johns. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday at 2pm and again at 6pm.

McCarthy's funeral is set for Thursday at 11am at the First Baptist Church on US 27. Memorial contributions in his name can be made to Ele's Place and the St. Johns Swim Team.
