Deer Season Opens

The nine-day deer hunt opens Saturday in Wisconsin amid uncertainty over Chronic Wasting Disease.

The Wisconsin tradition for the first time has hunters statewide wondering whether the deer they kill are infected with the rare, but fatal brain disease.

Department of Natural Resources ecologist Brad Koele says "what happens this year is going to be remembered for a long time."

The state wants hunters in every county to donate a total of 50,000 deer heads for CWD testing.

The National Weather Service is predicting light rain or snow for much of Wisconsin Saturday. Flurries or snow showers are expected Sunday in northern and western Wisconsin.

Deer tend to bed down when it's raining or snowing heavily.
