High-School Sports Schedule Likely Won't Change Anytime Soon

Michigan high-school sports' schedules likely won't change for another year.

This comes after Monday's decision by the U.S. Supreme Court forcing a lower court to reconsider its ruling that Michigan discriminates against female athletes.

For years, The Michigan High School Athletic Association has scheduled several girls' sports in off-seasons. It says this is done to help keep the girls from having to compete against the boys for attention. For example, girl's basketball is played in the fall, while the boys play in the winter.

The Communities for Equity filed a lawsuit, saying that discriminates against girls, making it harder for them to compete for college athletic scholarships.

It's highly unlikely the lower court will act on this new ruling in time for the fall, meaning the traditional sports scheduling will continue for some time.
