Construction on the Okemos road project is delayed until at least May 26. That's when the Ingham County Road Commission will hold a second public hearing on whether to widen the road to five lanes from Jolly to the Red Cedar River.

An Ingham County Circuit Judge ordered another public hearing after five residents filed a lawsuit claiming the commission violated open-meeting laws.

According to Gary Naeyaert, commission spokesman, "We think it's a misinterpretation of the open-meetings law, but the commissioners have done nothing wrong."

The commission is appealing the ruling.

Meanwhile, construction has been halted until a second vote is taken.

The second public hearing is scheduled for May 26, 6PM, at the commission's offices located at 310 Bush Street in Mason.
