The study defines living a healthy lifestyle as meeting these four requirements:
-maintaining a healthy weight
-exercising for 30 minutes at least five times a week
-eating five servings of fruits and vegetables every day
The study found 76 percent of those surveyed did not smoke, but less than a quarter percent ate five fruits and vegetables. Many argue the requirements are too strict, but head researcher Dr. Mathew Reeves says the purpose is not to dispirit people, but to encourage them to strive to meet all four requirements.
The study in published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
