JACKSON - A former school teacher will remain jailed as he awaits trial for having sex with a 15-year-old student. Jackson Circuit Court Judge John McBain ordered Matthew Lusby to remain in the county jail without bond Friday. Lusby was arrested this past Sunday morning, when police discovered he was sharing a car with the girl with whom he's accused of having sex. This happened just a few weeks after Lusby was charged with two counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct, charges that carry a potential life sentence.
Lusby had been free on a $100,000 bond, which carried a condition that he not have contact with the alleged teenage victim. He was pulled over by Jackson police at 3:40am Sunday for speeding. Police found the girl in his car. Police say Lusby told police he was driving the girl home from her friend's house.
The prosecutor contends he had sex with the 15-year-old girl on two separate occasions off school property. Lusby taught at the daVinci Institute in Jackson for over two years. He resigned shortly before being charged.
