It will probably cost more to cross the Mackinac Bridge, soon. The Mackinac Bridge Authority plans to implement an across-the-board fee increase for single vehicle, commuter and truck traffic.
The proposed hikes are as follows:
- Passenger vehicles: $1.25 per axle, the current rate is $1.50 for a two-axle vehicle, plus $1 for towed equipment, such as a boat or trailer
- Commuter vehicles: $2; commuter rates currently are $1.25
- Trucks: $3 per axle, including pickups with dual wheels and motor homes; currently, large trucks pay $2 per axle.
The rates hikes will offset anticipated revenue shortfalls in coming years.
