"In the 9th round....Kristin Haynie."

When the WNBA commissioner first said the name they've heard praised so many times this season, her family erupted in cheers.

"Oh, we're excited," her mom Debbie Haynie said. "It's a nice place to visit."

Haynie will join the Sacramento Monarchs as a guard in the next WNBA season. She's was the 9th pick, the first Spartan ever to be chosen in the first round of the draft.

Once her name was called, she hugged Coach Joanne P. McCallie and told the ESPN reporter, "Coming from Michigan to California, it's going to be great."

Her family admits they wish she'd be closer, but they're already talking about frequent flier miles and shedding tears about her days dreaming of this moment.

"I think about when we were little and she told my Dad she was going to be the first woman in the NBA, because there was no WNBA back there," sister Kelly Haynie said.

"It's her dream," grandpa Duane Marlan said with tears in his eyes.
