Michigan's largest health insurer is dropping Social Security numbers from its members' identity cards.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan says the change is part of an effort to help curb identity theft. It's expected to take place by the end of the year.
Blue Cross will issue four million new cards with randomly selected member contract numbers.
The company says Social Security numbers also will no longer be used on external documents.
