The Web site, www.eastlansingpolice.com, appears official, but that's far from the case.
News 10 interviewed its developer, John, who wished to remain anonymous. He says it's a parody or satire of the actual East Lansing Police Website and never intended to cause confusion or malice.
Not everyone thinks it's funny, though. East Lansing Police Chief Louis Muhn says it caused a chuckle to some about very serious issues within the community.
The site includes a tear gas shooting game and a link to buy riot apparel like t-shirts and beer steins that read "Gas Me."
Its developer says the site received over 10,000 hits since it went up last Tuesday.
