Here in mid-Michigan and across the country, parishioners found comfort in daily mass. Just a few hours after Pope John Paul II was laid to rest, the congregation at St. John Student Parish in East Lansing recited the same prayers used at the Pontiff's funeral in Rome.
For Polish citizen Eliza Kopczynska, the words were especially comforting. Far away from family and friends she prayed and reflected on the life of her Pope, a man she felt connected to not only through heritage but also through music.
Kopczynska says she first felt his presence when her mother was still pregnant with her, singing in a choir in front of the Pope. Year later, she played her violin at a special mass one day after he passed away.
