Veteran’s Day Special for Ovid Family

If Benny Sloat were alive he’d be 50-years-old, but his life was cut drastically short as he was killed in Vietnam. Due to the kindness of strangers, a piece of Benny’s legacy was returned to his family on Veteran’s Day.

Peter Roskam, state Senator from Illinois along with his family returned Benny’s dog tags to his mother, Jane Sloat.

Roskam’s family was on a trip in Vietnam when they spotted a vendor selling the tags. They bought a lot of the dog tags for $20.

After confirming their authenticity, the hunt for families missing their son’s tags began.

The Sloats were contacted and received their son’s tags.
