New Jobs

Faced with a record breaking jobless rate of 7.5 percent, Governor Jennifer Granholm is launching a new push to create 40,000 new jobs between now and 2007. The bulk of the employment would come in the road building and school re-building sector.

Granholm is offering Michigan schools a chance to secure a zero percent interest loan for five years to help rebuild many of the crumbling schools around the state. About 30-50 schools could be affected.

She also wants to remodernize some nursing home facilities, speed up the construction and repair of roads and clean-up industrial brownfields and abandoned gas station sights around the state.
