Governor Granholm plans to visit Japan this summer as part of an effort to encourage Toyota to build a new plant in Michigan.
Granholm says she's going in July to continue aggressive efforts to get the automaker to come to the state.
Toyota recently opened an assembly plant in Mexico, and it is building another in San Antonio. It has concluded that it needs at least one more assembly plant in United States.
Toyota employs about 7,000 people in Michigan through its design and engineering operations and affiliate firms.
