Disaster Aid

Gov. Engler has asked the federal government to send disaster aid to farmers in 33 Michigan counties.

Michigan's agriculture industry contributes $37 billion a year to the state's economy.

The request follows fruit, field and vegetable crop losses from this year's extreme weather.

Excessive rain in the Upper Peninsula and a lack of rain in the Lower Peninsula have caused the losses.

If the request is granted, eligible farmers will have access to low-interest emergency loans.
