"Child Is Missing Alert" Program

A nationwide program to help locate missing people is finding success in Michigan.

"A Child is Missing Alert" uses automated telephone messages to warn people in the area where the child, elderly person, or mentally-disabled person goes missing. A description and name are given.

The program is funded by state and federal grants and is free to police agencies in Michigan. Many agencies in mid-Michigan have used it including the Ingham, Eaton, and Jackson County Sheriffs' Departments.

Captain Dave Luce with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department said, "It's important because it saves us a lot of time, and every second counts when you're looking for a missing person."

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department has used the program twice since implementing it this summer.
