An Ingham County Commissioner and a candidate for commissioner are banning together to fight against the sale of animals for research.

Commissioner Mike Severino and candidate John Nevin say they will propose a resolution banning county shelters for selling animals for research.

They say the proposed ban will be one of the first resolutions taken up by the county board of commissioners in January.

The Ingham County Animal Shelter says the minimum holding period, chances for adoption, and population density of the shelter that day all play a part when an animal is sold.

The law has been in the books for the last 17 years, but the county made new changes to the resolution last year. The policy is not part of the individual shelters.
