Nearly A Quarter-Million Dollars Raised for Tsunami Relief

The live telethon broadcast Wednesday evening on WILX raised nearly a quarter of million dollars for the Red Cross tsunami relief fund.

Callers pledged $71,517 during the three hour event. The Dart Foundation pledge $50,000.

Telethon co-sponsor Sparrow Hospital had promised to match up to $100,000 in pledges made during the telethon, bringing the total to $221,517.

Also during the program, Meijer, National City Bank and Jackson National Life Insurance announced plans to match employee doantion's to the relief fund.
