Michigan Tries for Young Vote

State officials are actively trying to attract the young vote, the bracket with the lowest voter turnout in Michigan.

Historically, those between the ages of 18 and 24 have the poorest showing at the polls. Officials say complex issues and a sense of their vote doesn't matter are a few reasons why.

The state's director of elections says the Office of the Secretary of State targets Michigan colleges and universities. He says school's email lists are key weapons in reminding students about the power of their vote.

Students say they feel there is a lot to vote against, but not much to vote for. The state is using public service announcements to help get younger voters out to the poll.

Officials say they expect a higher turnout than normal, but not a real huge spike.
