Lansing Car Assembly to Shut Down

Portions of the Lansing Car Assembly plant has been in business since 1897, and now General Motors is planning to cease all operations at that plant by an approximate date of May 20th.

Chris Sherwood, president of the Local 652 says he expected this announcement, but not until March 2006.

Now, a year ahead of some expectations, a workforce of almost 3,500 Lansing Car Assembly employees may find themselves elsewhere come mid-March.

The Lansing Car Assembly includes the Fisher Body Plant and the Chassis Complex Plant. The Chevy Classic and the Pontiac Grand Am are two of the cars made at these plants.
