Tsunami Donations Pouring In

As of Monday afternoon, all the weekend mail hadn't even been opened and already, the Mid-Michigan Chapter of the American Red Cross had collected more than $155,000.

Those are personal donations, one of them as large as $5,000.

Companies are giving as well. General Motors pledge $1,000,000 last week. Monday, their employees returned from a holiday shutdown to find a letter on the Web site asking for their donations. GM will match them, up to another million dollars.

Great Harvest Bread Co. on Saginaw Highway will give in their way Thursday. The store will donate their entire take January 6, including employee salaries and the cost of bread making, to tsunami victims. They did a similar fundraiser after 9/11 and raised over $7,000.
