The Bharatiya Temple held its traditional Havan prayer service on New Year's Day to pray for peace. They even prayed to calm the earth and the ocean.
In addition to the tradition, they invited members of the non-Hindu Lansing-area community. People came to bear witness and share in the grief.
Bharatiya Temple's leaders do not know of anyone who lost family members in the tsunami. They say it is a human tragedy, and they will contribute nonetheless.
To give, write a check to the American Red Cross. 1800 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48912. Be sure to write "tsunami relief" in the memo line of the check if you want the money to be used solely for those efforts.
