Helping Children Deal with a Death

By  |

Following the discovery of Samantha Detzler's body many students in her school are dealing with the loss. Here are some tips from Ele's Place for parents who have children dealing with a death.

1. Be Honest and open.

2. Leave gruesome details out of conversations with young children. Use words like "death" and "Died," not "passed away."

3. Allow and encourage questions.

4. Reassure the child that this event doesn't happen often and there are things they can do to be safe.

5. Children who are experiencing grief may have trouble sleeping and concentrating.
