Lawmakers joined with educators, parents and students from across Michigan to kick-off Michigan Safe Schools Week.
The events got underway in the Capitol Rotunda with participants reciting a school safety pledge then signing a safety pledge form.
Organizers say school safety week brings attention to the fact that very student deserves a safe learning environment and that each student plays an important role in school safety and violence prevention.
