Pete Shannon, Scout Executive for the Chief Okemos Council says after the National Office audited their membership books and found 105 duplicated names, he went to work to figure out why.
Shannon says much of the mistakes were made through clerical and volunteer errors. Such as scouts changing troups and being listed in both their old and new troups. Some were instances where the wrong button was just punched on a keyboard. And one example where a child was registered by both his father and step-father.
Shannon says they were all honest mistakes and he doesn't suspect any kind of foul play. He also says work is underway to improve procedures to prevent such mistakes from happening in the future.
The Chief Okemos Council currently has some 7,400 scouts.
