Emotions were up and down Thursday as parents dropped their children off at Allen Street Elementary School. Grandmother Beth Williams was nervous; Mother Mary Person was anxious but hopeful.

The school district's Board of Education votes Thursday on whether to close the six schools on the chopping block, a move that would save millions of dollars. The targeted schools are Allen, Walnut, Verlinden, Wainright, Maple Grove and the Center for Language, Culture and Communication Arts.
