The state is investigating a complaint that sheriff's deputies broke workplace safety rules when they saved two people from a burning apartment.
The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking into the action of the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department on November 17.
That's when three deputies arrived before firefighters and entered the building to rescue the residents.
The state agency is checking whether higher-ups suggested that the deputies attempt the rescue without the needed safety equipment.
Sheriff Daniel Minzey says he's proud of his deputies and says they took the initiative that saved the residents.
