Would the 900,000 visitors who visit Mackinac Island each year still come if the state charged a fee?
The head of the commission overseeing the Mackinac Island Historic Parks says no.
But Governor Granholm says it's one way the state could raise money to cover the park's $3 million budget without taking money from the general fund.
A budget office spokesman says all state parks except Mackinac Island cover their expenses with fees.
Mackinac Island only covers about half its expenses that way.
