Mackinac Fee Debated

Would the 900,000 visitors who visit Mackinac Island each year still come if the state charged a fee?

The head of the commission overseeing the Mackinac Island Historic Parks says no.

But Governor Granholm says it's one way the state could raise money to cover the park's $3 million budget without taking money from the general fund.

A budget office spokesman says all state parks except Mackinac Island cover their expenses with fees.

Mackinac Island only covers about half its expenses that way.
