Monday night the Lansing City Council unanimously approved the first step in renovating a sidewalk partially blamed in a hit-and-run death.
The council has voted to conduct a study on making a partial sidewalk continuous on the northside of East Saginaw up Prudden.
Seven-year-old Chantell Buckner died in a hit-and-run in the area last month. Police say she was walking in the road because the sidewalks weren't plowed. The Lansing City Public Services Director said the sidewalk is never plowed because it's only a partial walkway, and they want to discourage pedestrians from using it.
The city council is expected to vote on making the sidewalk continuous in about a month after hearing results of the study.
