Governor Granholm has backed off her support for displaying the Ten Commandments in the Capitol Rotunda.
She tells The AP that she's not interested in violating the Constitution.
During a taping of public television's "Off the Record” program, Granholm had said she didn't have a problem with having the commandments on display at the Capitol.
She said they promote universal values, not one religion. But the Democratic governor has changed her mind.
A former Alabama state Supreme Court justice was removed from the in 2003 when he refused a federal order to remove his Ten Commandments monument from public display.
