Drinking and posessing open containers of alcohol are no longer allowed on and in public places on the MSU campus... with a few exceptions.
The new policy was enacted by the MSU Board of Trustees on Thursday. President Lou Anna K. Simon says the move puts MSU more in line with other Big Ten schools, Michigan campuses and the surrounding East Lansing community.
Exceptions already include tailgating before home football games. Guidelines for other exceptions will be drawn up at the board's April meeting.
Breaking of the alcohol ban is considered a misdemeanor.
