An Ingham County jury has ruled that Sparrow Hospital and its staff were not negligent in the care of a newborn child that died eight years ago.
Dr. Greg Messenger, and East Lansing dermatologist, and his wife Traci had sued Sparrow claiming the hospital was negligent in treating their premature son, Michael, back in 1994.
The Messengers said their son was deprived of oxygen and that Sparrow Staff gave them false information that ultimately prompted Greg Messenger to disconnect his son's life support.
Dr. Messenger was prosecuted for manslaughter because of that, but was acquitted in a trial that drew national attention.
