Meijer says it plans to hire 2700 workers in Michigan this year after eliminating nearly 1900 management positions in 2004.
The retailer plans to hire 450 workers at each of its new stores in Southfield, Marysville, Standale, Oakland County's White Lake Township, Kent County's Gaines Township and Ottawa County's Holland Township.
Meijer also will open a replacement store in Ionia. The company also plans to open stores this year in New Albany, Indiana and Bloomingdale, Illinois.
Meijer began accepting applications for positions ranging from stockers to cashiers to managers at the White Lake Township store. The company will start hiring at each store about three months before it opens.
