You may buy your Thanksgiving turkey frozen, but hundreds here in mid-Michigan opt for a fresh bird from Cornwell's Turkeyville USA. It's a family owned operation roughly 30 miles southwest of Lansing. Manager Amy Wayne says 500-700 fresh turkeys are sold at her shop the week before Thanksgiving.
The Cornwell's don't actually raise the birds themselves; they buy them from a farm in Middleville which ships them over 10 days before Thanksgiving. The birds come cleaned and packaged and are stored in a refrigerator until they're sold. There are no chemicals or preservatives added.
You can purchase a fresh turkey through Wednesday, but you can taste one year round. The Cornwell's run a restaurant and business near Marshall.
