Connecting the Bullets

While additional sniper shooting may or may not continue in Virginia, Michigan State Police say it should take only hours before police know if the “Beltway Sniper” killed again.

Sgt. Reinhard Pope, of Michigan State police, said that identifying bullets could take minutes or hours depending on the complexity of the case.

He says highly advanced microscopes can compare bullets to other crime scenes to see if the same gun was used in their firing.

If the bullet markings are the same, it’s likely the same gun was used and therefore the same gunman.
