The blaze started at about 6:30 Saturday morning. Dozens at Blair Park apartments in Jackson were forced to evacuate. No one was in the apartment that caught fire, but a woman living next door was awakened by the stench.
"I smelled something, and when I woke up my house was filled with clouds of smoke,” says Dana Smith.
Witnesses and evidence from the scene led police to arrest a man they think is responsible for setting the fire. No one was hurt. Most tenants were able to return to their homes.
The apartment where the fire started has been condemned, but neighbors say the apartment managers are arranging for the woman and her daughter to move into another unit in the complex.
